All research studies that involve humans and collect protected health information require RVH researchers to collect and manage that data using our REDCap™ (Research Electronic Data Capture) system. REDCap™ is a secure web application designed to support PHIPA-compliant data capture for research studies, along with audit trails for tracking data manipulation and export procedures, and automated export procedures for seamless downloads of de-identified data to common statistical packages. REDCap™ is hosted on servers operated by the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre. The servers are in a physically secure location and are protected and backed up in a similar fashion and schedule, respectively, as all other patient data. Access to the study data in REDCap™ will be restricted to the members of the study team using a username and password authentication system (Gmail™ account required).
Please see Resources for additional training materials.
This step-by-step guide will take new REDCap™ users through the registration process. In addition, the guide will provide step-by-step instructions for researchers on how to use the New Research Study Intake Form that will assist them in systematically transforming their research idea into a research study.
For new users, this step-by-step guide provides you with all the instructions needed to start a new research project or survey in REDCap.
For more advanced users, this intermediate user’s guide provides step-by-step instructions on designing more complex research databases and surveys
For advanced users, this step-by-step guide provides you with all the instructions you need to make the most of all the attributes available within REDCap.
